Beginning Bonsai

Beginning Bonsai I: An introduction to the art and cultivation of bonsai.
A bonsai is a tree that has been cultivated and trained to be a miniature of its larger self. Bonsai is an ancient art form, and a wonderful way to relax and express your creativity.
In a hands-on workshop you will create your own bonsai tree and gain the knowledge and skills to continue its training and care.
In this first session, you will learn design, cultivation, and the traditions used for creating a successful bonsai. We will cover bonsai styles and aesthetics, and how to use your own creativity in designing your bonsai. Pruning and wiring techniques will be covered, as well as how to care for your bonsai and help it thrive throughout its life.
A starter tree will be provided. Choose the “tools included” workshop option and receive a set of specialized bonsai tools and bonsai wire, plus other essential tools, all of which are yours to keep. You can also choose the “bring your own tools” option and bring your own tools and bonsai wire. Please request a tools list from the instructor before the workshop.
A second session, covering repotting into a bonsai pot, will be offered at a later date, allowing your tree time to recover from the stress of pruning and wiring. In that session you will learn re-potting techniques as well as refinement techniques for further development of your bonsai. We will discuss sources for bonsai pots and how to choose one that best suits your tree.
Register in both workshops for a full course in Bonsai Basics, start to finish.
While there is a maximum of 10 students, 5 students are the minimum to make the class happen. If we do not get 5 students, the class will be rescheduled and refunds will be made to students.
