Do you have a gun dog? Would you like to try your hand at using your dog's natural instincts in training? Is your dog over 6 months old and have a basic understanding of recall, sit, stay, loose lead walking. What does the course cover:
How to handle your dog appropriately
How to reinforce desirable behaviours
Focus and engagement
Recall
Steadiness
Impulse Control
Focus
Engagement
Handling Skills
Retrieving skills
Hunting skills
Heelwork
Recall
Whistle Cues
Emergency Stop
How to build steadiness around distractions
But most importantly, my aim to to help you build an even stronger common language with which to communicate with your dog in a co-operative way, encouraging trust and learning how to work as a team.
Your dog must have a basic understanding of recall, sit, stay, loose lead walking (this is very important as without these already established, particularly 'stay' it will be hard for your dog to be able to work on many of the activities throughout the course). If you need some help with these basic obedience strategies, please do contact me and we can book in a 121 to work on the basics.
Please bring with you:
Water for your dog
A flat collar and clip lead (no slip leads or extension leads)
A long line if your dog's recall is questionable!
A well-fitting Y shaped harness to use with a long-line
A whistle - Acme 210.5 for spaniels, 211.5 for retrievers
A Clicker if you use one
LOADS of high value treats
Your own dummy and toys if your dog prefers to use their own retrieve articles
We may not use a long-line every week, but please still bring them every week. It is dangerous to use a long-line on a dog without a harness due to the risk of neck injury when a long-line is attached to a collar, which is why we ask you to bring a well-fitting harness with your to all classes. Your dog's welfare and safety is our priority, so we may ask you to sit out of a certain task if safe equipment is not available.
Please, no flexi-leads, slip-leads or check/choke collars. Embark dog trainers are dedicated members of The UK Dog Behaviour and Training Charter, The Association of Pet Dog Trainers and The Association of Pet Behaviour Counsellors and will not tolerate the use of aversive equipment within our classes, including but not limited to spray collars, e-collars, prong-collars or choke-collars and you will be asked to leave the class until the aforementioned equipment is removed.
Embark Dog Training is a Positive Reinforcement Training establishment.
