Beginners & Follow on Crochet Course 4 Week Booking (PAYF)

Join us for our Beginners & Follow on Crochet Course with brilliant local artist Bev Rhodes to help you take that leap into learning to crochet in 2024.

A multidisciplinary artist who loves sharing their arts and crafts knowledge and helping others find wellbeing. Bev’s crochet journey began as a child when her grandma taught her, and she now exhibits work that she’s created.

Crochet is such a fun and versatile skill to learn and there are so many things that you can make once you've learnt a few basic stitches. It is also a great hobby to have to help you relax and look after your everyday wellbeing.

In this beginner’s crochet course, you will learn how to master five basic crochet stitches and create an item to be proud of.

Crocheting has many health benefits including relieving stress and building self-esteem.

For Beginners, during the first 2 weeks we will practice the main stitches and changing yarn colour. Once you have mastered this you will work on crocheting granny squares and turning them into something functional for the remainder of the course. This could be a mug cosy, a small bag, some garland, or go big and make a cushion cover!

For those who are following on from a previous course, Bev will help you continue to improve your technique and learn new skills.

All materials are included and you will leave with your completed crochet pieces.

The course is suitable for complete beginners or those wanting to refresh their skills.

Hot drinks and biscuits are included.

To ensure this Beginners Crochet Course is accessible to everyone we have made it Pay What You Can for the 4-week Course. We have suggested £10 per session to help cover costs but if this is not affordable for you then please input what you can. (When booking, please add a donation of however much you can afford for the 4-week course). Any donation is welcome. Stitch-Up CIC is a social enterprise and any profits we make are reinvested straight back into delivering our creative community projects supporting vulnerable and disadvantaged people in Leeds to learn new skills and improve wellbeing.

We will also be using this time to gain feedback from participants about what creative activities they would like to see going forward at Meanwood Community Centre so all feedback is greatly appreciated.

There is ample parking available at the Community Centre Car Park. If you cannot fit in the Car Park, please park on the main part of Stainbeck Avenue, with consideration to the residents please do not park in the cul-de-sac.

The Stitch-Up Studio is to the rear of the Community Centre. Once you arrive in reception please follow the signs for Stitch-Up.
