Our next Beginners course starts with an information and registration evening as follows:
Tuesday 14th January 2025 at 6.45pm
Address: St John's Church Hall, Haydon Wick, Swindon, SN25 1QP (next to Morrisons)
You will not be doing any running on this day (14/01/25).
The 10 week running course starts the following Tuesday 21st January 6.45pm arrival for a 7.00pm Start.
Address: Same as the registration evening
You will be given all the information needed at the registration evening, including what to wear.
You will have a 10 week training plan which will take you from a non-runner to continuously running 5K at a pace that is comfortable for you. You will have support from one of our helpers for the duration of the 10 week course, giving you help, encouragement and general guidance. You will also receive a training t-shirt, helpful hints and tips, a plan for stretches and free refreshments afterwards.
In addition to our 'supported' run on Tuesdays, we also encourage Beginners to complete 2 homework sessions before the next week. These will not be supported by your helper, but we do encourage you to engage with other beginners for this. These additional sessions are key to your success and will be replicating what you do on Tuesday evening.
Many of our members attend one of the local parkruns on Saturday morning, this is a great way to complete your weekly homework runs and allows a good 2 days of non running to recover for your Tuesday run.
At the end of the course, you will be running continuously for 5km at a pace that is comfortable for you. You will then be invited to join our main running club, the Slinn Allstars, at a discounted membership rate. Further details will be given to you about this towards the end of the beginners course. If you are already able to run 5K continuously, you will not need to join this course. The Beginners course is strictly for people aged 18 or over, and we are not able to accommodate anyone under the age of 18 due to insurance purposes.
