About this Event
This is a 3-week beginner’s taster course to learn basic hand-building techniques with clay.
Over the three weeks, we will create, decorate and complete three small projects:
- 2 slab coasters
- A pinch pot
- A coiled pot
You'll have time to add decoration to your pots before they're fired and ready for collection the week following the last week.
Knowledge Required
Beginner - all levels welcome, these sessions are for those with some or little experience working with clay.
* This workshop is for ages 16+ only.
Techniques we will cover
- Slabs - rolling and working with slab forms
- Pinch - a delicate and intricate method to create a form
- Coiling - an ancient method of building making a winding and circular form
- Decoration techniques - sgraffito and painting
- Glazing
Materials Provided
- Everything, no additional costs - you'll make 2 small pots and 2 coasters
- We work with earthenware clay, items made are for indoor purposes
What to bring
- Comfortable clothing that you don't mind getting a little messy. Aprons are provided.
Timings
- Each session will be 2 hours a week for 3 weeks
- Thursday Evenings, 6th, 13th, 20th
- 7pm - 9pm
The workshop is held at the Periwinkle & Clay Creative Studio - it's a bright, friendly and welcoming space. A refreshments menu is available.
