Beginner Woodworking - Wood Turning SeminarIn this class, you will learn how to turn beautiful objects on a wood lathe. Wood turning has a lot to offer. Besides the opportunities to make attractive, decorative, and useful objects, it offers everyone from beginners to experienced pros, numerous ways to be creative and “in the moment” with your work. This two-day class is for beginners, and will introduce you to the lathe, tool sharpening, and using lathe tools safely.
Students in this seminar will be given demonstrations, as well as ample time to turn one or more objects on the lathe, such as a top, holiday decorations, a rolling pin, a wand, small stool, a seed pot, a lidded container or a goblet. Since this class will be focused on developing confidence and understanding of the wood lathe, it will take place over two days, with a 6-hour session each day.
The two sessions for this class will be:
-Session 1: 11/18
-Session 2: 11/19
This class is beginner focused and participants are not expected to have prior knowledge of woodworking. The course is open to participants age 16 and over (participants under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult also enrolled in the class).
Note: There will be a lunch break in the middle of this class. Participants are welcome to bring a lunch and hang out at the makerspace, or we'll happily suggest our favorite local dining options.
FAQ:
Should I bring anything with me to class? Everything you'll need to complete the projects will be provided including any nescesary safety equipment. If you have safety glasses or hearing protection you prefer to wear, please feel free to bring them along. (Safety glasses must meet ANSI Z87 standards (most do).)
Can I bring my own wood to use? We'll supply all the wood you'll use to complete your wine rack.
What should I wear ? Plan to wear comfortable clothing that you're prepared to get dirty. Avoid loose-fitting clothing and dangling jewelry such as neck chains or bracelets. Shoes should be closed-toed (no sandals or flip-flops). Any long hair should be tied back.
I have a question that's not answered here. Can you help me? Of course, just send us an email at [email protected] !
