Darlene Rowe learned to knit and crochet as a child. Retired from Chautauqua County, she started Warm Willow Yarnworks after her first craft show in 2017.

Darlene enjoys pattern testing for knit and crochet designers. A tester receives an unpublished pattern from a designer to test out the instructions, identify any errors or inconsistencies, and provide feedback to help improve the pattern before it is released to the public, making sure that the pattern is clear and user-friendly for others.

Selling at WNY craft shows in the fall and winter, completed yarnworks are also available year round at The BioDome Project in Jamestown and Coffee + Crochet in South Buffalo. Married with 3 grown children, Darlene is a born and raised WNYer. When she doesn’t have a hook or needles in her hands, you can find her gardening in season, getting muddy in a UTV, or yelling during a Buffalo Bills game.

• Tickets are non-refundable to ensure we can compensate the instructor for her time and materials.

Agenda:

• Introduction to crochet: hook sizes, yarn weights, reading a yarn label
• How to make a chain, importance of tension, creating another row. 
• Gauge swatches: what they are, importance. Making a gauge swatch, measuring a gauge swatch. Correcting if gauge is off. 
• Beginning our beanie, stitch count. 
• Review for questions 
• Homework

• First class review and Q & A
• Continue making beanie or frogging and restarting as needed. 
• Homework 

• Finishing beanie as needed
• Seaming methods and seaming the beanie 
• Time permitting: make a yarn pompom and attach to beanie.
