About this Event
Join us at San Diego's Cowork + Connect to explore this beginner-friendly San Diego workshop, designed to teach you 3D design, slicing, and print preparation. Over two sessions (September 24 & October 1), you’ll learn the full process of 3D printing — from sourcing ready-made models online to creating your own simple designs — so you can print them at home. No prior experience is needed, and this course is perfect for anyone curious about 3D design, slicing, and print preparation.
This in-person 3D printing workshop takes place over two sessions on Wednesday, September 24, and Wednesday, October 1, from 6:30–8:00 PM. Your ticket covers both classes, giving you the full two-day learning experience, spaced one week apart to allow time to practice at home and address any questions that come up.
__________
Class 1: Finding, Preparing, and Printing: Sept 24
- Explore popular online repositories to source high-quality 3D models
- Learn how to slice models using free, beginner-friendly software
- Understand print settings such as layer height, infill, and supports
- Troubleshoot common printing issues
__________
Class 2: Refining, Tuning, and Designing: Oct 1
- Explore advanced slicer settings for stronger, higher-quality prints
- Learn techniques to enhance print quality
- Design and export your own ready-to-print 3D model
__________
All work is done digitally — participants take their files home to print on their own 3D printers or at a makerspace. Bringing a laptop is recommended to follow along, though you can also participate by taking handwritten notes. A 3D printer isn’t required for these classes—recommendations will be shared if you’d like guidance.
Each session includes a one-hour lesson followed by a brief Q&A. Students are encouraged to ask questions throughout the sessions to create a vibrant, interactive learning atmosphere. You’ll also leave with a resource to contact Joe as a mentor for guidance after the class.
