About this Event
Before the Musical: Parisian Vaudeville comes to Newcastle
What was a night at the musicals like in nineteenth-century Paris? Join us as we explore the vaudeville, a major landmark in theatre history and grandfather of the modern musical.
Join us at the Newcastle Arts Centre for an interactive evening of music and history, as we enjoy showstopper performances by local theatre groups and professional singers, as we explore just how musical theatre created its dastedly baddies and charming maidens, and as we hand over control to the audience to create our sing-a-long finale.
Featuring the wonderful Tyne Youth Company, and theatre historians Sophie Horrocks (Durham University), Katherine Hambridge (Durham University), and Hannah Scott (Newcastle University).
Doors open: 7pm
Show running time: 7.30-9pm
After-show Q&A: 9-9.30pm
Bar open until 11pm
