Before Dawn is the synth-rock brainchild of Rob and Kate Houle, currently based in Appleton, Wisconsin. With roots stretching from the salty shores of Florida to a decade in weirdo Austin, TX, and a three-year nomadic stint in sunny Los Angeles. Before Dawn has cultivated a sound that’s as eclectic as their journey. Theater majors who first crossed paths at a college party, Rob and Kate shared passions for music, theater, and adventure; this has been the bedrock of their creative partnership.
During the indie-sleaze era’s peak in Austin, Rob and Kate launched Before Dawn, aiming to deliver a sweaty, theatrical, high-energy, stadium-rock experience in the intimate setting of a duo performance. Similar to bands like The Killers, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, The Strokes, Bloc Party, and The Faint, their music offers a cathartic escape meant to ignite dance floors. Shawn Petsche, a promoter at Sled Island Music Festival, describes them as a "hook and synth-laden wall of sound" capable of sparking a dance party at a moment’s notice.
Spanning nearly two decades, Before Dawn’s discography includes two full-length albums, three EPs, and several singles, showcasing their evolution and enduring appeal in the post-punk and alternative landscape. Their newest single is Packets of Gold, it was released, May 17th 2024. Today, with the addition of drummer Nathan Klein, their live performances are more driving and visceral than ever. Fans can expect a new album this fall, 2024.
Palm Ghosts
The sound of an 80s prom in a war zone…located in the dead heart of country music, Nashville, TN.
That is the sound and spirit of Palm Ghosts, as far from the honky-tonks and pedal taverns of their adopted city as one can get. More at home in rainy Manchester or blustery Berlin, the trio weaves early cinematic dream pop and new wave with brooding post punk.
Spin Magazine says Palm Ghosts is "A Heat Seeking Missle for Early Alternative Rock Fans"
Manchester’s Analogue Trash describes Palm Ghosts as “Achingly beautiful, fragile and majestic music. An intoxicating mix of Shoegaze and Dream pop, taking from the 80’s but not in debt to it”
South Africa’s Jangle Pop Hub has said the band has “An inimitable 80’s style dream pop that mixes the avaricious swirl of The Cocteau Twins, the atmospherics of The Cure and the grandiosity of Echo and The Bunnymen”
Palm Ghosts is:
Joseph Lekkas- Lead Vocals, Bass
Benjamin Douglas- Guitar, Vocals
Walt Epting- Drums, Percussion
