Before Breakfast explore feminist issues through the telling of personal stories – fusing their classical knowledge and rich arrangements with raw expression.

Gina and Lucy’s music has always been beautiful, though is often layered with feminine discomfort. An uneasy web of harmonies and relentless piano, intricate cello and expressively haunting vocals run through their back catalogue and feature on their debut album I Could Be Asleep If It Weren’t For You. Their new EP 'Absorbed' is out 28 April 2023.

The four-piece have toured with gold certified Sony artist Tokio Myers and Mercury Prize nominated Bella Union artist C. Duncan, performing at venues such as Shepherds Bush Empire, Manchester Albert Hall, The Sage, Scala, Band On the Wall, Thekla and The Rescue Rooms.

GRAIN MOTHER

Grain Mother is the atmospheric indie-folk project formerly known as Alice Robbins. Following the acclaimed success of two solo EP’s (Lavender Honey, Wilted), and a headline UK Tour in 2021 Grain Mother now allows for a new beginning, much like the grain – this is a fresh canvas, soon to be harvested. The signature pristine, angelic vocal is now accompanied by the nous of drummer, and up-and-coming producer Cam Worne (Summerhouse Studios, Catmilk, Jiminil) who also accompanies with thick, velvet harmonies. In composition Grain Mother’s sound can be as jagged as it is sweet, jazz inflections on delicate folk-inspired melodies hint at a polluted melancholy, with James Hughes’ colossal guitar sound adding a density to these pure birthed songs. They are accompanied by Deri Sharman, filling in for Jim McBride on bass, her basslines succint and melodic.
