A sonic feast: experience stirring, melodic works for wind octet and string orchestra. A meditative chamber work by Arvo Pärt highlights the SPCO winds, evoking an almost trance-like spirit before the strings join for Igor Stravinsky’s lilting, picturesque "Apollon musagète", Ballet in Two Scenes. Ludwig van Beethoven’s Fifth Symphony, a cornerstone of orchestral music, builds on the energy of the first half of the program, delivering triumphant bursts and rich harmonies.
SPCO x University of Minnesota Collaboration
During the concert on Sunday, November 3, students from the University of Minnesota’s School of Music will perform side-by-side with the SPCO on the fourth movement of Beethoven's Symphony No. 5 at Ted Mann Concert Hall. As with all regular SPCO performances, student tickets are free to reserve. Learn more at thespco.org/studentsfree.
