Beer and bread go hand-in-hand, which makes sense given they share virtually identical processes.Join us for a full day of bread-making using byproducts from St Dominic’s Brewery, Blackfriars very own micro-brewery. You’ll learn to make some delightful beery bakes, including beer barm sourdough, rye bread, red beer spelt bread and a hoppy ale soda bread!
We follow the ethos of ‘Proper Bread,’ using locally-milled stone-ground flours and sourdough starters to produce four or five delicious and nutritious loaves. All dough is kneaded by hand.
Brewing ale was a daily task for the medieval friars, as common as bread-making. It seems fitting to the story of Blackfriars to blend the narratives of brewing homemade beer and baking homemade bread on site.
St Dominic’s offers a pale ale, IPA, and lager—each authentic to Dominican brewing traditions. You can enjoy these brews throughout the event and with a communal lunch which will be followed by a tour of the brewery.
A basic knowledge of bread-making will help, but is not essential. These courses are relaxed, informative, and fun.
