A two day course full of ‘things you need to know’ and ‘what they don’t teach you at college’ to hit the ground running with the confidence to get on farm and make a difference.
Morning classroom sessions: •A virtual walk and talk through the year as a beef and sheep vet – common conditions, treatments and more importantly how to prevent them next time. •Tips and tricks to being on call, on farm emergencies and surgery. • Disease investigation with Colin Mason – how to approach common diagnostics - high barren rates, abortion sampling , pneumonia and scour investigations, sudden deaths. • Principles of suckler cow production and how to help farmers achieve them – production data, growth rates, pelvimetry, managing heifer replacements, bull health. • The principles of sheep production – tup and ewe fertility, BCS, nutrition, lamb growth rates, trace element supplementation, parasitology. • An approach to health planning – how, why, what, where and when.
Afternoon farm visits: • David discusses grazing management, dietary requirements for sheep and suckler cows and silage making. • Colin and Lee-Anne focus on suckler cow husbandry, environment and nutrition with an introduction to regenerative farming.
Cost: £500 +vat per person includes lunch and refreshments. Accommodation not included
