Becoming a Desiring Archipelago with Francisco Godoy

Join us for Becoming a Desiring Archipelago, a seminar and conversation with writer and curator Francisco Godoy on the work of Agustín Fernández. Godoy is a contributing author to the recent publication Agustín Fernández: Obsession as a Thought Process, published by the Agustin Fernandez Estate and Leon Tovar Gallery.

Of geography's many forms, the archipelago is one of the most complex—both in its structure and its history. Many artists have explored archipelagos through alternative perspectives, some drawing from what is known as the "epistemologies of the south."

This discussion will focus on the work of Agustín Fernández, placing it in dialogue with other artists and thinkers, and examining how desire can serve as a lens for understanding the geopolitical histories that shape our world.

Francisco Godoy Vega is a writer, artist, and independent curator. He holds a PhD in Art History and Visual Culture (Universidad Autónoma de Madrid, 2015) and is a member of the Ayllu collective as well as co-director of the Palenque Chiquichinchay Program for Transgressive Migrants. He has been a researcher at Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía (2009–2011, 2014–2016) and a professor in the Department of Art History and Theory at UAM (2013–2017). Currently, he teaches in the Master’s in Exhibition Studies at EINA, University of Barcelona, and the Master’s in Cultural Management at Universidad Carlos III de Madrid.
