Beckley’s Coffee & Tea Celebration merging with Sweet Treats event during the Rhododendron Festival featured during May!
Beckley Events’ committee is combining two events into one this year – the annual Coffee and Tea Celebration will be joining Sweet Treats during the Rhododendron Festival on May 11, 2024. This tasty event features coffee, tea, and dessert-tasting, plus other food, youth musical performances, and Emergency Preparedness Fair booths. The activities will take place along Neville Street from Word Park to the Cardinals Plaza by Heber Street, weather-permitting. The middle level of the Beckley Intermodal Gateway can be used as a rain location, if needed.
Businesses and organizations are invited to participate and help raise funds for the United Way and Bill Withers statue bronzing (proceeds split between the two). Participants should plan to provide 70 to 100 samples. Attendees will purchase tickets for samples, and the participants collect their tickets in exchange for samples. Participants may be reimbursed 25 cents per ticket collected or can opt to donate their proceeds to the causes. Participants may also sell larger portions, other food, or items, and/or take orders at their booth. Youth performers will provide entertainment during the event at the Word Park gazebo and near the Cardinal sculpture on the corner of Neville and Heber Streets. Music will be provided by the WWHS Choir/Theatre group, Beckley Children’s Theatre Ministry, Strings of Green, and Seeking Altitude.
For $5, attendees will receive five tasting/sample tickets and a voting coin. Tickets will be sold at The Raleigh Playhouse & Theatre during the event. Watch for details about opportunities to purchase advance tickets and online sales.
In addition to the city’s activities, the Appalachian Paranormal Collective will be having an event at the Raleigh Playhouse & Theatre on May 11. Admission is $10 to attend their activities in the theatre and at Sir Walter’s in the basement of the theatre.
