An afternoon on Beckett and the visual arts: short talks, two performances, and conversation at Bel Ami. Free and open to all.
About this Event

Join us at Bel Ami on Saturday 29 August 2026 for an afternoon devoted to Samuel Beckett and the visual arts. The workshop brings together four Beckett scholars – Leland de la Durantaye (Claremont McKenna), Foad Dizadji-Bahmani (CSULA), David Lloyd (UCR), Katherine Weiss (CSULA) – for a series of short talks, written with a non-expert audience in mind, exploring Beckett's lifelong engagement with painting, sculpture, and the artists of his time.
This will be followed by two performances:

  • Beckett's Not I (1972), by Jeni Jones
  • The chess game between Murphy and Mr. Endon from Beckett's first novel, Murphy, staged on (Dizadji-Bahmani, Santipreecha, Luc Trahand; 2025) with a new composition by Luc Trahand.

The workshop coincides with Dan Mitchell and Richard Sides' exhibition (18 July–12 September 2026), which presents new paintings and sculptures that activate familiar words in an absurdist rearrangement.
Refreshments provided. Attendance is free and open to all.
