About this Event

Because It Lasts: Time and Space in Children’s and Young Adult Literature and Media is the 9th iteration of the Master of Arts in Children’s Literature (MACL) program’s biennial graduate student conference. Every year, MACL plans, promotes, and hosts an international conference around a given theme of children’s literature scholarship, which is open to undergraduate and graduate students. The conference is particularly geared towards students and emerging scholars who are inexperienced or unfamiliar with academic conferences, to provide a supportive environment for professional development, networking, and mutual inspiration. In addition to paper and creative writing presentations, the conference invites renowned scholars and authors as our keynote speakers. Featured keynote speakers from past conferences include Dr. Maria Tatar, Dr. Philip Nel, Dr. Elizabeth Marshall, Dr. S.R. Toliver, Dr. Angel Matos, Dr. Naomi Hamer and best-selling authors Rachel Hartman and Richard Van Camp. This year, our conference will have Dr. Justyna Deszcz-Tryhubczak and author Tanya Lloyd Kyi as our keynote speakers.
