*If you only have interest in trapping bear, this is the correct course for you. If you wish to be able to trap all of Maine’s legal furbearers, you must take a full Trapping Education course-see Trapper Education/ Current Courses FMI.*
A Bear Trapper Education course teaches participants how to legally, ethically, and safely trap black bears and provides a foundation of knowledge upon which to build. Topics in the 3 hour course include proper bear trapping equipment and use, responsible trap tending, the importance of good wildlife management practices, and habits and traits of black bears in Maine. Students must pass a written exam.
All Bear Trapping Education Courses are either in person courses, or online. This course is specific to black bear trapping and does not allow for the trapping of other species.
