Bea Orpen and the Drogheda Municipal Art Collection

Yvonne Scott discusses her recently published essay on the life and work of artist, Bea Orpen, exploring her painting practice in idea and materiality, as well as Bea and her husband Terry Trench's founding of the Drogheda Municipal Art Collection, 80 years ago, in June 1946; in this year of celebrations as Highlanes Gallery m`arks its 20th year.
The essay was published in March to coinicde with the exhibition Bea Orpen: Paint and Purpose. The exhibition and publication were sponsored by Vincent Black.
ABOUT
Dr Yvonne Scott is a fellow emeritus at Trinity College Dublin, the University of Dublin. Her research focuses on modern and contemporary art, specialising in the representation of landscape, nature and environment, and she has published extensively in the field. She was Chair of the Advisory Board, and contributor to Art and architecture of Ireland, vol. 5, Twentieth century (2014), and to Modern Ireland in 100 artworks (2016).
