Hosted by Be the Light Society, this annual gala brings together changemakers, community leaders, and advocates to uplift South Asian women and girls across British Columbia. Through storytelling, we showcase what it means to transcend barriers and how education can light paths forward for South Asian women.

We are a non-profit organization dedicated to showcasing diversity through culture and inclusivity, while supporting South Asian women to pursue higher education and break down systemic barriers.

In 2024, Be the Light Society awarded scholarships to 20 young South Asian women, recognizing not only academic potential, but also perseverance through adversity, community involvement, and financial need.

📚 Why Education?

Education is more than a classroom experience, it’s a catalyst for equity. Girls’ education is linked to delayed marriage, healthier families, financial independence, and safer communities. For South Asian girls facing unique cultural, social, and economic barriers, education is often their first line of defense against gender-based violence and systemic inequality.

To build a future where South Asian women are empowered, confident, and equipped to lead. Through scholarships, mentorship, and community programming, we aim to remove financial and social barriers to higher education.
