Since 1998, Tropical stands apart in LA with over $33,000 in donations over more than 100 events, each one donating proceeds above costs to nonprofits.
This time our mission is a little bit different because we are in the process of launching our own nonprofit.
In the wake of a tragedy where we lost a friend at our last campout, we feel called to not only make our own events safer, but to help others do the same.
Simply put, small campouts cannot afford paid medical services on their own, and as our crowds age we are increasingly at risk going to remote places. Though the events are beautiful experiences, we have to be realistic about problems arising, and that as we get older we don't bounce back as quickly from medical emergencies.
Our new nonprofit aims to address this problem by collecting donations from the greater community that loves gathering outside for intimate music events and sees improving guest safety as crucial. We are building a team that will seek grants and find other creative ways to fund this project. In addition we aim to spread the work about medical safety at outdoor events and share stories that help shift the narrative about campout safety and well-being.
The funds we collect will be distributed as grants to small campouts that apply in order to subsidize their medical staffing. We can reduce the overall cost of medical by involving medical volunteers working under the umbrella of trained festival medical organizations and staff, giving our volunteer medics the training, support, and insurance protection needed to keep them safe as well.
We expect to file for the new nonprofit by the end of February, but filing as a 501(c)(3) takes some time and incurs some expense.
100% of proceeds from this event after costs will be allocated to the launch of the new nonprofit, mainly aiming to cover filing fees, url registration, web development, and deposit or full cost for medical presence at the next Tropical campout September 18-20. That event, our 28-year anniversary, will house within it our inaugural on-site medical training of volunteers, with staff and supplies provided by RGX Medical.
For February 22, we are keeping our ticket prices low as we know times are tight and we want to encourage everyone to come out, but there's also an option to donate more on this ticket page.
Rest assured that the booking fees attached to your tickets also go to good causes. Our ticketing site,,Humanitix, has transformed over $10M of those fees into education, healthcare and more for humans all over the world.
Please help us by spreading the word! If you can't afford to pay, please reach out and we will gladly put you on the guest list, just help us get the word out to others or at the event (or both).
Be My Tropical Valentine started as a free Valentine's event in 2000 and we also want to honor that legacy - but because we are a fundraiser, we ask that you contribute some time to this cause if you cannot afford to contribute money.
Together we are stronger... and safer ♡♡♡
