Det syv personer store kollektiv har flere gange gjort en hel Roskilde Festival-skare til jublende fans og sidste gang de spillede på ALICE, var det for en tætpakket sal i total ekstase. Vi forventer intet mindre, når BCUC vender tilbage til Nørrebro til maj med funkede grooves, magnetisk percussion og rå punkrock-energi. Med sig har de deres kommende album “The Road Is Never Easy” (Out Here Records, 2026), og første single varsler allerede en intens, rytmisk medrivende og bevidsthedsudvidende oplevelse.

BCUC – Bantu Continua Uhuru Consciousness – beskriver selv deres musik som “a hedonistic trance and a weapon of political and spiritual liberation.” Og netop i spændingsfeltet mellem fest og frigørelse opstår en helt særlig, medrivende kraft. Med afro-futuristisk, psykedelisk og ekstremt groovy percussion, magnetisk call-and-response-sang og en ukuelig energi, trækker de tråde til sydafrikanske ikoner som Philip “Malombo” Tabane og Batsumi, mens de filtrerer arven gennem hiphop, punk rock-energi og samtidens brændende spørgsmål. Det er musik, der insisterer på et Afrika rigt på traditioner, ritualer og åndelighed. “We bring fun and emo-indigenous Afro psychedelic fire from the hood,” siger forsanger Kgomotso Mokone meget rammende. Efter plus 20 år på scenen er BCUC mere aktuel end nogensinde før og klar med et nyt album på Out Here Records til foråret, der rygtes som bandets bedste til dato.
Fra de første bandøvere i en shippingcontainer nær den kirke, hvor den legendariske biskop og aktivist Desmond Tutu organiserede modstanden mod apartheid, har BCUC bevæget sig ud på verdens største scener – fra Glastonbury og Roskilde til Womad og Afropunk. I 2023 modtog de den prestigefulde Womex Artist Award som anerkendelse for deres frygtløse arbejdsmoral og transformerende liveoptrædener. Sidste gang BCUC optrådte på ALICE var det for en bragende udsolgt sal og et publikum i fuldstændig ekstase, og vi forventer intet mindre, når de vender tilbage til maj.
