About this Event

Join us for an unforgettable evening with bestselling author and journalist Andrew Ross Sorkin as he dives into his gripping new book, 1929: Inside the Greatest Crash in Wall Street History - and How It Shattered a Nation. The conversation will be led by award-winning journalist and GBH CEO Susan Goldberg.

From the author of Too Big to Fail—hailed as “the definitive history of the 2008 banking crisis”—comes a spellbinding chronicle of the most notorious stock market crash in history. With the sweep of a historical epic and the pace of a financial thriller, 1929 lays bare the unchecked greed, blind optimism, and human folly that fueled a collapse still shaping our world today.

In 1929, Sorkin takes us behind the roaring façade of a bull market turned catastrophic freefall—where fortunes vanished overnight and a generation’s faith in the system was shattered. But beyond the headlines, another story unfolds: one of visionaries and fraudsters, dreamers and power brokers, hubris and collapse.

With unparalleled access to historical records and newly uncovered documents, Sorkin illuminates the financial and political intrigue that rocked Wall Street—and eerily mirrors today’s volatile climate. From sky-high markets and regulatory blind spots to the recurring myth that “this time is different,” 1929 is both a riveting narrative and a timely warning.

Don’t miss this rare opportunity to hear from one of the sharpest, boldest voices in journalism. With his trademark blend of fierce insight, biting humor, and storytelling flair, Andrew Ross Sorkin doesn’t just revisit the past—he pulls 1929 straight into today’s headlines. Whether unpacking the high-stakes drama of a market on the brink or drawing uncanny parallels to our own era, Sorkin promises an evening that’s as entertaining as it is eye-opening.

Every ticket includes a hardcover copy of 1929.
