BBC CPD for Educators | The Music Is Black
About this Event
BBC CPD for Educators | The Music Is Black: A British Story at V&A East Museum at the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, home to East Bank, a new cultural and education quarter built on the legacy of London 2012, and a growing partnership of cultural, creative and education organisations working together to support young people and educators across east London.
The day includes, a free ticket to The Music is Black exhibition and as well as free lunch.
The CPD
Created in collaboration between the BBC and V&A East Museum, this free teacher training sits alongside the landmark exhibition The Music Is Black: A British Story. Facilitated by acclaimed music educator Nate Holder, this CPD is designed to celebrate and uplift Black British music, supporting teachers to bring its sounds and stories into the classroom with confidence and enjoyment.
From classical to R&B, garage and grime, this session will offer practical activities, listening tasks and lesson inspiration to embed Black British repertoire into KS3 and KS4 curricula.
This CPD warmly welcomes music teachers from all backgrounds, with a particular invitation to Black educators who may be seeking spaces where their musical knowledge, lived experience and cultural insight are recognised as expertise.
By taking part, you’ll also contribute to a nationally available digital CPD resource hosted and filmed by the BBC, ensuring that the stories, artists and ideas within The Music Is Black continue to reach classrooms long after the exhibition closes.
As filming forms a key part of the session, we ask that teachers only sign up if they are confident they are able to attend, with permission from their senior leadership team.

This is an East Ed event.
brings together world-class cultural, creative and education organisations at Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park to support teachers, inspire young people and open pathways into learning, creativity and future careers.
A cross-organisational partnership between the East Bank institutions, BBC, UCL, UAL's London College of Fashion, V&A and Sadler's Wells, alongside a growing network of local partners, East Ed links learning directly with employers, industry, culture and place. UCL East Campus, Sadler's Wells East, V&A East Museum and Storehouse, and London College of Fashion, UAL are all now open at Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, with BBC Music Studios due to open in 2027.
