Bayou Musicians Abroad
Musicians Abroad ensembles consist of student performers from the United States of America. Today’s performers come from the states of Louisiana and Mississippi. Each performer you will hear today has spent many hours perfecting their musical skills.
Tour preparation began nearly 19 months ago. Music educators in each region nominated their finest performers, based not only on their musical skills, but also their character and displayed leadership.
The group gathered state-side for a few days of rehearsal in preparation for this once-in-a-lifetime International Music Experience!
In addition to several performances while in European countries, this Musicians Abroad tour provides time for sightseeing, experiencing local culture, shopping and enjoying delicious cuisine.
This is the inaugural tour for our Bayou Musicians Abroad. The term “Bayou” refers to a unique wetland feature, commonly found in the Gulf Coast region of the southern United States. Taken from the indigenous group, Choctaw, word bayuk, meaning small stream, the bayous are often associated with Creole culture and now the identity of both Louisiana and Mississippi.
