Join us for an enlightening session of our Culture & Conversation speaker series featuring historian and conflict archaeologist Richard Brija, who is also a current student at the Alliance Française de Dallas. This captivating event will delve into Richard's research on the poignant graffiti left behind by soldiers of the First World War, discovered throughout Northern France.Richard brings a unique perspective on these artifacts, which hold significant meaning for American, French, and German heritage. His fieldwork along the former Western Front reveals not only the stories of those who lived through the war but also the cultural connections that endure today.Richard Brija is a historian and conflict archaeologist who is finishing his PhD at the University of Glasgow in Scotland, UK, in addition to being a private student at Alliance Française Dallas. For the past four year his studies have taken him to Northern France, where he conducts fieldwork and research on graffiti left behind by soldiers of the First World War. These artifacts are scattered across the former Western Front of the war and hold deep significance to American, French, and German Heritage and History. Prior to his journey towards a PhD, he spent 11 years in the United States Marine Corps and was a firefighter outside of Chicago until he found his calling in Conflict Archaeology.
