About this Event
Join us at the Battle of Bannockburn for our expert-led, fun filled archaeology workshop, where participants will get to discover the process of a battlefield dig.
This 4 hour workshop will include the following activities:
- Exploring maps of the battlefield
- Using real archaeological techniques to excavate (replica) medieval finds
- Discussing our finds and who we think they would have belonged to
- Trying on replica battle equipment to put ourselves in the shoes of a solider at the battle
Partaking in this workshop will also achieve particiants a Heritage Hero Explorer Award, certified by Archaeology Scotland. Certificates will be handed out at the end of the workshop.
Please note that this event is for children ages 8-12 inclusive. Parents/guardians are not required to stay at the centre during the workshop, and will not be permitted to stay in the learning room during the workshop. However, there is a cafe on site that parents can use whilst waiting if required. Please ensure that your child is aware of and comfortable with this before signing them up to the workshop. All staff leading and assisting in the workshop have PVG certification and work with children on a regular basis.
A consent form will be emailed to parents/guardians prior to the event.
Children are required to bring a packed lunch with them, as there will be a lunch break during activities.
Due to the nature of the workshop, places are limited to 12 children.
