To celebrate BATS Improv’s 40th anniversary in November 2026, we’re launching a year of 40th Specialty Classes. Every month, we’ll bring back a class from the past four decades—some taught by the original coaches who created them, and others updated by a new generation of coaches. It’s a chance to revisit the skills and formats that made BATS what it is today, learn something new, and connect across 40 years of improv history!

When I first taught this class in 2005, the description promised to “make you positive if it kills you.” I’m happy to say that no one died.

Over the decades, I’ve noticed that the improvisers who are consistently positive are the ones that I love to watch. Furthermore, any improviser in a moment of positivity has my attention. In this class, we’ll look at the full spectrum of positivity: Saying “Yes”, knowing things, being specific, being excited, interested and energized and so much more. Ultimately, I believe that being positive is about creating connection.

No one will be killed in this class.

We have community standards, a conflict process, and a COVID prevention policy in place. Agreement/acceptance of these policies is required to participate in BATS classes. All class sales are final. In the event we cancel a class due to insufficient enrollment, we’ll refund your tuition in full.
