About this Event
Basso Celestia presents “Ah, Ça Ira” (“It’ll be alright!”), a program structured around the pursuit of liberty in a period marked by resistance, rebellion, and revolution. Three revolutions were key to shaping the late eighteenth century: the Jacobite rising (1745-1746), the American Revolution (1775-1783), and the French Revolution (1789-1799). Featuring music from France, Scotland, and early America, this program is a testament to the many roles that music played in this period of change, from direct calls to action, to folk music preserving a sense of home, to telling tales carried back across the sea.
This free concert is presented by Govans Presbyterian Church in Baltimore, MD at 7:00pm on November 7. A freewill donation ($20 suggested) will be collelcted at the door to directly support the performing artists.
Basso Celestia is a newly founded early music ensemble based in the Mid-Atlantic region. Featuring Leah Wenger (soprano), Mo Akande (soprano), Katerina Kotar (cello), and Cameron Kuzepski (keyboard) alongside additional collaborators, the group specializes in intimate chamber works of the baroque era. Combining strong backgrounds in historical performance practice with the diverse interests of its members, Basso Celestia strives to make informative and thematically curated concert programs accessible to many audiences. As part of this mission, they center small-scale works, striving to make them as beloved and iconic as their large-scale counterparts.
