John Goldsby has been on stage for the last 50 years, and with the WDR Big Band he can look back on 30 years together. John Goldsby will be bidding farewell to the WDR Big Band at this concert with a very special selection of pieces: The first part includes the groovy and thought-provoking Baden-Baden Suite, composed by Goldsby himself and arranged by our Principal Conductor Bob Mintzer. The second part presents a selection of Goldsby's rich compositions performed by the band during his tenure. The arrangements come from important companions such as Vince Mendoza and Michael Abene. A musical cross-section that once again underlines how strongly John Goldsby's bass playing has influenced the WDR Big Band and the international jazz scene.John Goldsby Bass

Wenn das kein Grund zum Feiern ist: Seit 50 Jahren steht der Bassist John Goldsby auf der Bühne, und allein bei der WDR Big Band kann er auf 30 gemeinsame Jahre zurückblicken. Mit einer ganz besonderen Stückauswahl wird John Goldsby bei diesem Konzert aus der WDR Big Band verabschiedet: Der erste Teil beinhaltet die groovige und nachdenkliche Baden-Baden-Suite, die von Goldsby selbst komponiert und vom Chefdirigenten Bob Mintzer arrangiert wurde. Im zweiten Teil wird eine Auswahl von Goldsbys reichhaltigen Kompositionen präsentiert, die die Band während seiner Amtszeit aufgeführt hat. Die Arrangements stammen von wichtigen Wegbegleitern wie Vince Mendoza oder Michael Abene. Ein musikalischer Querschnitt, der einmal mehr unterstreicht, wie stark John Goldsbys Bassspiel die WDR Big Band und auch die internationale Jazzszene geprägt hat.
