Basics of Zero Waste Design & Construction
About this Event
Learn the core principles of sewing zero waste patterns and practice making bias tape with the zero-waste method. All sewing levels welcome—suitable for those who have never sewn using a pattern before to experienced sewists curious about zero-waste methods.
- What you’ll be doing: You’ll learn the basics of zero waste sewing, from its design ethos and approach to practical usage. We’ll be discussing how zero waste patterns differ from traditional patterns: how sizing works, techniques for marking and cutting your pattern, and typical construction methods and finishes. Then, we’ll be making some bias tape out of scrap fabric, using the efficient zero-waste method.
- Do you need to bring anything? All materials will be provided, but you’re welcome to bring your own fabric if you want to make bias tape out of it.
- What to expect: Expect an interactive 1-hour session, starting with a deep dive presentation followed by a hands-on workshop. You’ll walk away with ready-to-use bias tape and the foundation necessary to tackle any zero-waste sewing pattern.
