This Basics of Digital Photography Course makes you take control of your camera!
This hands-on, practical course is for beginners who want to take up photography as a profession or amateurs who have a Digital SLR camera but are unsure of how to progress from the automatic mode. You’ll be introduced to Equipment, Exposure, Motion, Depth of Field (DOF), Light, Composition and Basics in Photoshop.
Course Outline:
• Class 1 (Equipment) | Monday 25.010.2021
-Talks about the different camera settings and how they will be used to take successful pictures. Also talk about lenses; differences and properties and what to choose for what kind of situation.
• Class 2 (Exposure)| Thursday 28.10.2021
-the true photographer prefers to shoot in manual mode so as to have full control over his image. So we will talk about shutter speeds, apertures and film sensitivity (ISO) and how they are all connected in getting a good image.
• Class 3 (Motion )| Monday 01.11.2021
-motion is a technique in still photography that adds drama and beauty to an image. There are several techniques and we will learn how to apply them.
• Class 4 (Depth of Field (DOF)) | Thursday 04.11.2021
-another technique to make the point of interest in an image stick out and easily identified.
• Class 5 (Light) | Monday 08.11.2021
- light is the most crucial factor in picture taking, and there are several sources and kinds. We will be talking about all of them and stressing on using flash creatively.
• Class 6 (Composition)| Thursday 11.11.2021
- the first part of the course is the technical aspect i.e. getting a picture shot correctly. Now comes the aesthetic aspect which is, not only shooting it correctly but shooting it beautifully.
• Class 7 (The Basics in Photoshop )| Monday 15.11.2021
-Photoshop to digital photography is what the darkroom was to analog photography. Any shoot is not only the shooting of the image, but processing it as well. That is the post production phase and if the shoot was not adequate Photoshop will enhance the image.
• Class 8 (The field trip )| Thursday 18.11.2021
- We will go and make a shoot with me present. I have several venues we will decide on that together.
• Class 9 (The field trip)| Monday 22.09.2021
-we will review the field trip assignment. The shoot and the post produced image.
About Aladin Abdel Naby:
Born 1955 in Cairo I attended and finished primary and secondary schools in English. In 1980 I graduated from the American University in Cairo with a BA in Mass Communication. I picked up photography as a hobby as early as 1964, taught myself all the skills and arts of the trade. During my teen days I was a musician, but in 1981 I changed career and photography became my profession. I worked as a commercial photographer from 81 to 85, when I accidentally covered the Squash World Championship in Egypt for Reuters News Agency. I signed up with Reuters in June 86 as a staffer and stayed on till March 2006. During that time I covered most of the major events in Egypt, all North African countries, assisted in coverage in Europe, Central Africa, Somalia, Chad, Sudan, Jordan, Syria, Yemen, Qatar, Emirates, Iraq (both wars 91 & 2003 and in between) and Iran.
Having lived an exciting and somewhat dangerous life I resigned my commission with Reuters as Senior Photographer-Egypt Mar 2006. In May of 2006, I completed the Training of the trainers, TOT, course in Amsterdam, by invitation from the Dutch renowned organisation “The World Press Photo Foundation - WPPf”. Having finished the TOT, I became a certified photography instructor, and tutored their programs for local photojournalists in the Middle East till 2010. I teach at both the “Adham Center” and the Faculty of Mass Communication at the American University in Cairo AUC, basic photography and Photojournalism.
With a wide range of skills and hobbies, I am now living a calm and peaceful life enjoying myself and helping improve the standards of photography to all in need and do commercial and creative photography.
