Basic Surgical Skills (BSS®) Course – Pre-course Requirements & Terms and Conditions
By registering for this course, you confirm that you have read, understood, and accepted the following Terms and Conditions.
1. Refund Policy
Refunds (less applicable handling and administration fees) are available up to 5 weeks before the course start date.
Refund requests received after this time are subject to the Learnix Refund Policy and may not be eligible for a full refund.
2. Mandatory Pre-course Learning
Completion of all mandatory e-learning modules, videos, and the final MCQ (minimum pass mark of 80%) must be confirmed by the Royal College of Surgeons before 7:00 a.m. on Day 1 of the course.
Failure to meet this mandatory requirement will result in:
- Removal from the course.
- Inability to participate in any part of the course.
- Forfeiture of all course fees.
This is a mandatory Royal College of Surgeons requirement and cannot be waived.
3. Course Fee Includes
The course fee includes:
- Access to Royal College of Surgeons online learning materials.
- Practical skills training.
- Expert faculty supervision and mentorship.
- Course equipment and consumables.
- Lunch and refreshments on both course days.
- Post-course learning resources.
Accommodation, travel, parking charges (where applicable), and evening meals are not included.
4. Confirmation of Course Place
A course place is confirmed only when:
- The application has been completed in full.
- The application has been accepted.
- Full payment has been received.
- Registration requirements with the Royal College of Surgeons have been completed.
5. Royal College of Surgeons Registration
All candidates must have a valid Royal College of Surgeons (RCS) registration number.
If you do not already have one, you can register online before completing your course application.
6. Payment Deadline
Payment must be received within 24 hours of the payment request.
Failure to make payment within this timeframe may result in your place being released and offered to another candidate.
7. Faculty Availability
Learnix reserves the right to limit candidate numbers in accordance with Royal College of Surgeons faculty-to-candidate ratios and faculty availability.
If insufficient faculty members are available to safely deliver the course, Learnix reserves the right to cancel the place of the most recently enrolled candidate(s).
Affected candidates will be offered either:
- A full refund of all course fees paid; or
- A transfer to the next available course date.
Learnix will make every reasonable effort to agree a suitable alternative with the affected participant.
8. Minimum Candidate Numbers and Course Cancellation
Learnix reserves the right to cancel or reschedule the course if there are insufficient candidate numbers to deliver it safely, effectively, or in a financially viable manner.
In such circumstances, participants will be offered either:
- A transfer to an alternative course date; or
- A full refund of all course fees paid.
Learnix will notify affected participants as early as reasonably practicable.
9. Acceptance of Terms
Submission of your course registration confirms that you have read, understood, and accepted these Terms and Conditions in full.
The practical course is delivered over two days using a combination of demonstrations, supervised hands-on practice, and faculty feedback.
Terms and ConditionsEach practical session has clearly defined learning outcomes, and participants are expected to actively engage throughout the course to achieve the required competencies.
Before attending the face-to-face course, all participants are required to:
- Complete all online e-learning modules provided by the Royal College of Surgeons.
- Watch all mandatory pre-course learning videos.
- Complete the online pre-course multiple-choice assessment (MCQ).
To be eligible to attend the course, all online learning and the final MCQ must be completed by 7:00 a.m. on Day 1 of the course.
Participants must achieve a minimum score of 80% in the MCQ assessment. Multiple attempts are permitted until the required pass mark is achieved.
Face-to-Face CourseFailure to complete the mandatory pre-course learning requirements before the deadline will result in the participant being unable to attend the course, and all course fees will be forfeited in accordance with Royal College of Surgeons regulations.
