Basic Sewing Machine Repair Workshop with Camilla Mustard
About this Event
Just like a car or a bike, your home sewing machine needs a regular tune up to keep her humming. This 2-hour workshop will go over the basic mechanics of a home sewing machine, the functions of standard stitches, basic troubleshooting, and how to maintain your machine. After this class, you will feel confident in recognizing when your machine needs a little TLC and will have the know how to address your damsel in distress.
Be sure to bring your machine, your manual (if you have it), and any tools/extra parts that came with your machine. For the workshop, we will be using a small flathead screwdriver, tweezers, a small brush for cleaning, and machine oil. A toolkit is available for purchase if you do not have these tools. Choose the toolkit ticket option when signing up.
* This class is best for those with mechanical sewing machines and lower end computerized machines. Because Ali is not a licensed technician, we would like to err on the side of caution when it comes to the higher end computerized machines. If you have a question regarding whether your machine will be properly suited for this class, please don’t hesitate to reach out to Ali. You can reach out via email: [email protected]**

Guest Instructor: Ali Dworsack
Ali Dworsack earned her BFA from MassArt in 2009. Her passion for sewing and fashion came later as an act of resistance against the rise of fast fashion and its negative impact on the environment. She received her Designer Development Certificate from the Made Institute in 2019 where she launched her hand painted, sustainable clothing line, Camilla Mustard. Ali has taught a plethora of fiber arts classes for over 12 years; from knitting and crochet to dyeing and embroidery with sewing as her main squeeze. Currently, she is the Studio Technician for the Fashion Department at Drexel University and teaches the Materials Studies course at the Made Institute. She has spent the past year teaching herself how to repair industrial sewing machines and has fallen in love with problem solving and tinkering with these finicky beasts. Instagram @camillamustard
