This course is designed to provide information of basic maintenance for a push lawnmower. It will also address basic trouble shooting questions such as: "why won't my mower start", "why does it cut uneven", "is it supposed to shake like this", etc. With the goal of providing information and clarification on things related to small engines, discussion will be on the following topics:
• Fundamental safety measures for operating push mowers,
emphasizing proper handling and containment of engine fluids.
• Maintenance and replacement procedures for filters, including
cleaning and/or replacing the air filter/breather.
• Removal, cleaning, and replacement of spark plugs, along with
adjusting the gap between positive/negative portions.
• Proper draining and disposal techniques for engine fluids such
as gasoline and oil.
• Safely removing the blade.
• Grinding and balancing the blade.
• Reinstalling the blade and filling the engine fluids.
Because there are so many different manufactures, engine types and styles, one push mower will be used for demonstrations. There will be time for questions regarding specific engine/mower types.
Eye and hearing protection gear will be provided.
