Basic Bookbinding Skillshare -all ages
This will be at our home a few blocks from Holton.
Street parking is available on Guthrie and we have space for 1-2 vehicles in the back drive if anyone needs close parking for accessibility reasons. f
I have been playing with bookbinding as a casual hobby for several years and folks have been asking for a skillshare, so here it is! Join me at our house for a mostly outdoor (restrooms and cooling off in the AC available) bookbinding class. All ages are welcome but this is NOT a drop off class. If your child is not ready to handle sharp objects without help, be prepared to help them please!
My plan is to teach 3 different binding styles across a wide range of skill level:
Zine folding with decorative binding - All ages, all skill levels, low frustration and easy to finish within a few minutes. Can be done without using anything sharp.
Basic Stab Binding - Entry level skill, but requires tools and following a pattern.
Saddle Stitch Binding - Traditional bookbinding with stitched pages, stacked and sewn together. If you have basic understanding of hand sewing you can do this even if you have never tried book binding, but it is more detail oriented and requires a higher frustration tolerance.
Participants will have the option to leave with one of each type of bound books/journals. (Or a ton of zines if that's your jam!)
$5-$20 sliding scale. Cash or Venmo. If $ is tight, just show up! Money will never be a barrier to accessing community! Glue sticks, washi style tape and interesting paper also welcome!
I'll provide all the materials you need, but if you have paper, stickers or other things you want to bind or include in a junk journal feel free to bring them! This is a great way to manage stacks of art work you have shoved in drawers!
Things to note:
-Show up as early as 5:30 and help set up or just hang.
-My intention is to start the instructional portion right at 6pm.
-I'll start with the easiest binding and work my way up. Folks not interested in the harder ones are welcome to dive into their project once they have gotten instructions on the one they want to do.
-BYO water bottle/cold beverage. You do you, but please do so in a way that respects friends in recovery (use a coozie or repackage)!
-Please step all the way away from the event to smoke or vape.
