Join us for a celebration and look forward (and a little looking back) for the UK’s first Bachelor’s degree of Arts and Sciences
About this Event

Marking 10 years since our first full cohort of students completed the degree.

UCL launched the flagship interdisciplinary BASc degree in 2012 to pioneer a flexible, liberal arts and sciences undergraduate education in the UK. BASc has gone from strength to strength ever since, with increasing numbers of students on the degree, and the establishment of the Department of Arts and Sciences in 2022.

The celebration will include a keynote talk from Kate Raworth (author of the international best seller ‘Doughnut Economics’) and a panel discussion with alumni of the course, current students, and staff. The panel will share favourite memories and stories from the course and consider what we should be doing over the next 10 years.

There will be a drinks and nibbles reception at 8pm.

All are welcome, we are particularly keen to see current BASc students and alumni!

Speakers

Kate Raworth: Kate Raworth is a Senior Teaching Fellow at the University of Oxford and a Professor of Practice at Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences. She is the creator of the Doughnut of social and planetary boundaries, and co-founder of Doughnut Economics Action Lab. Her internationally best-selling book Doughnut Economics: seven ways to think like a 21st century economist has been translated into over 20

languages and has been widely influential with diverse audiences, from the UN General Assembly to Pope Francis to Extinction Rebellion.

Wendy Sims-Schouten: Professor Wendy Sims-Schouten is Head of UCL Arts & Sciences and Professor of Interdisciplinary Psychology. She is an elected Fellow of the Academy of Social Sciences, Chartered Member of the British Psychological Society and Principal Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. She has been with the Arts and Sciences programme (and then department) since 2017, and has convened three of the core modules of the BASc as well as being awarded a Provost Education Award in 2020 for Personal Tutoring.
