Walk Description:
From Barnt Green station we take a short walk through the village followed by an easy-going steady ascent up a grassy hill to join a quiet lane. We soon leave the lane to make a gradual and very pleasing descent across fields, enjoying the views, to the hamlet of Withybed Green (near Alvechurch). A quiet backwater of a lane lined with pretty cottages leads to a wooded path and our second easy ascent of the walk. We across some fields giving us more good views where we take a short break. A short canal section brings us to Upper Bittell Reservoir. Here we pause to enjoy the scene across this large body of water with its sailing craft and waterbird life. From the reservoir a wooded path following a stream then open fields bring us back to Barnt Green for our return train journey. There is a cafe close to the station for those who would like refreshments prior to catching the return train. There are three direct trains an hour back to Birmingham. It should be noted there are two short easy ascents on this walk which are on good tracks, nothing steep, and there a few stiles which should not cause us any problem. We will take this walk at a pace which is comfortable for all and enjoy some really nice views.
Expressions of Interest for this walk will close at 06.00 on Thursday 4 June. After this, please email [email protected] to enquire about any late availability for the walk.
===================================================================
If you later find that you are unable to join us it would be helpful if you let us know by sending an email to [email protected] - this will be passed on to the walk leader and will prevent any delay to the start of the walk should the leader be waiting for you. Please note that some walks have a waiting list so tickets are NOT TRANSFERABLE; if you are unable to join us then please cancel your place to free it up for someone who may be on the waiting list rather than passing it to someone else.
