A plush, speakeasy-esque feel with perfect cocktails, creative menu, and a slightly beer-soaked us on stage. Come to where the nocturnal creatures hang. Barnaby and the Butcher write and perform across the broadly defined genres of Alt Country and Americana. Theirs is a style that evokes the mystery and nostalgia of Arizona's desert country while offering something entirely new. Their catalogue of originals is ever-expanding, and their uniquely-chosen covers include artists as wide ranging as Chris Stapleton, The Tragically Hip, Bonnie Raitt, John Hiatt, and Indigo Girls.
Damon Barnaby’s madly skilled heritage electric guitar is magnified by Joshua Butcher’s powerfully rich and welcoming vocals. Their sound is complex and fervent, vacillating between Dark Country rock songs, bittersweet honeyed ballads, traditional Country riffs; all of which is enhanced by Butcher’s clever, often heartbreaking lyrics.
Completing the experience is Robin Messing’s uncompromising and defibrillator-worthy backup vocals add harmonies with depth and beauty reminiscent of Arizona's desert canyons; Southern Arizona's funk guitarist, Doug "Hurricane" Floyd" whose thundering talent adds radiant color and complexity as he shares solos and guitar harmonies with Damon; and John "The Monkey" McIntyre with a creative and nuanced style that expertly responds to Joshua's music direction.
This is serious music by not-so-serious musicians.
