Barkat NATURE ART WORKSHOP SERIES - MAKING EARTH PIGMENTS
Schedule
Sat Jul 13 2024 at 11:00 am to 02:00 pm
Location
The Guelph Outdoor School | Guelph, ON
About this Event
Join us to connect with the colours of the earth and create watercolour paints with ochres, clays, and charcoal. Learn about gathering and creating wild pigments, working with local binders and gums, and painting on wild surfaces. We will tune in to the most ancient form of paint making and expression, share colour stories, and collectively paint an offering for the land. Whether you are new to making pigments from the land, or you have played with earth pigments before, we welcome you to join us!
This artist series is made possible thanks to a generous grant from the Musagetes Fund through The Guelph Community Foundation.
This workshop series will be hosted at The Guelph Outdoor School on Stone Road in Guelph (parking at Barber Scout Camp just past the railroad tracks from the West).
IMPORTANT: We ask that you arrive about 15min early to sign waivers and begin the trek to our location as a group. This workshop series is being conducted outdoors in a Cedar forest. We ask that you dress appropriately for the weather. There will be light snacks and refreshments provided. We'll mainly be sitting on stumps and the forest floor. If you'd rather bring a camping chair please do so - some can be borrowed directly from the BIPOC Outdoor Gear Library, just ASK!
WHAT TO BRING:
- Personal water and snacks if you have dietary needs
- 'Bagged' Lunch
- Appropriate clothing for the weather (will proceed rain or shine - tarped areas available)
Start 11am - End 2:00pm
NOTE: This event is intended as a safe(r) space for BIPOC community members (and their family). You are encouraged to show up exactly as you are; and are guaranteed dignity, respect, and a feeling of belonging.
MORE ON THE ARTIST
Nimra Bandukwala (she/her) is a community-engaged visual artist and maker of
crafts. She grew up in Karachi and currently lives on the traditional territory of

appreciated and grew plants, and valued the lives and stories of materials. She
creates paints, dyes, and sculptural pieces with plants, rocks, and shells while
exploring our complex relationships with these materials. She co-leads Reth aur
