About this Event
Espresso Beginner Workshop: Learn the Foundations of Great Espresso
Discover the fundamentals of espresso in this 2-hour beginner-friendly workshop designed for anyone looking to build confidence behind an espresso machine.
Whether you've recently purchased a home espresso machine or simply want to understand what makes a great shot, this class will give you both the knowledge and practical skills to get started.
What You'll Learn
Part 1 (60 minutes): Coffee Fundamentals
We'll begin with an engaging presentation covering the essentials of specialty coffee, including:
- The history of coffee and how espresso became one of the world's most popular brewing methods.
- Why coffees from different countries have unique flavor profiles, including the influence of origin, climate, altitude, and coffee variety.
- How processing methods—such as washed, natural, and honey—affect the taste and character of the final cup.
- How to describe coffee flavors using common tasting terminology and sensory evaluation techniques.
Part 2 (60 minutes): Dialing In Espresso
The second half of the workshop is a hands-on espresso session focused on one of the most important variables in espresso extraction: grind size.
You'll learn how to dial in espresso by adjusting the grinder while keeping the coffee dose and brewing recipe consistent. Together, we'll compare different extractions and discover how grind size influences extraction time, sweetness, acidity, body, and overall balance.
By the end of the class, you'll understand how to troubleshoot common espresso problems and confidently dial in delicious shots at home or in a café.
Perfect for: Home baristas, beginners, and anyone wanting to build a strong foundation in espresso.
