Baptiste Trotignon Trio - Jazz Concert

For this exceptional concert in Washington, Baptiste Trotignon will present a kaleidoscopic repertoire, reflecting the many facets of his personality. In line with his previous albums Body & Soul, a solo exploration of standards, and Brexit Music, a joyful reinterpretation of English pop songs by a jazz trio, Baptiste will lovingly juxtapose these repertoires, like a chef open to the most daring combinations of spices. Brexit versus Broadway is therefore an unexpected face-off between a British pop repertoire (The Beatles, The Police...) brimming with energy but full of subtlety, and standards from the great tradition of Broadway shows (G. Gerswhin, C. Porter...), a source of ever-renewed freedom and inventiveness.

To cook up all these elements, Baptiste brings Joe Martin on double bass and Jochen Ruckert on drums, two big names on the New York scene, to form a trio as transatlantic as the repertoire itself.

About Baptiste Trotignon

Baptiste Trotignon began studying classical piano at age six before discovering jazz and improvisation as a teenager. His first trio albums in the early 2000s, followed by two acclaimed solo piano records, quickly established him as one of the most remarkable pianists of his generation, leading to invitations from major French and international festivals.

He has received numerous awards, including the Django Reinhardt Prize, the “French Revelation” at the Victoires du Jazz (2003), and the Grand Prize at the Martial Solal International Competition (2002). Over the years, he has collaborated with artists such as Tom Harrell, Brad Mehldau, Melody Gardot, Ibrahim Maalouf, and Angélique Kidjo.

Trotignon’s work spans jazz, classical, and songwriting. His projects include Song Song Song (2012), Thousands of Miles (2016, with mezzo-soprano Kate Lindsey), and Ancestral Memories (2017, with Yosvany Terry). As a composer, he has written major orchestral works performed by the Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France and others.

His recent albums, Brexit Music (2023), PianoForte, Ces Messieurs..., and PianoVoix (2024), highlight his versatility across jazz, chamber, and vocal music.

Security Rules: Each person attending the event must have a ticket registered in their name and a government-issued ID that matches the name on the reservation to enter the Embassy. No one will be admitted without a reservation and official ID. Due to strict security measures, please arrive on time, as doors will be closed at 7:30 pm sharp. Please allow for extra time for security screenings.

Parking: There is no on-site parking. Metered parking is available on Reservoir Road at $2.30/hour (max 4h until 10pm). Garage parking is available at Georgetown MedStar Health (Entrance #2, 2800 Reservoir Road NW), approx. $25 for up to 3 hours
