Gua bao, meaning ‘cut bun,’ is one of Taiwan’s most beloved street food specialties, often thought of as the Asian equivalent of a burger. In this hands-on class, you’ll learn to make, shape, and steam these pillowy delights from scratch.Of course, no bao bun is complete without a delicious filling! You’ll be cooking crispy marinated chicken, pairing it with a spicy mayo and fresh, zingy Asian slaw. You will also receive a chef demonstration (with tasting!) of Shen Jian Bao—a pork mince and broth-filled bun that is both pan-fried and steamed, creating a crispy-bottomed, fluffy bite of perfection.
Dietary Info: Suitable for vegetarian diets (V). Not suitable for vegan or gluten-free diets.
What You Will Be Making:
• Steamed bao bun – Soft, fluffy steamed bread
• Crispy five-spice chicken – Marinated and deep-fried to golden perfection
• Pickled Asian slaw – Fresh, crunchy, and full of flavour
Skills:
• Making bao dough from scratch
• Marinating meat for maximum flavour
• Knife skills for preparing slaw and garnishes
• Steaming bao buns in a bamboo steamer
• Deep frying to achieve the perfect crispiness
• Steam-frying Shen Jian Bao for a crisp-bottomed finish
• Shaping Shen Jian Bao

After all of your hard work, you will sit, relax, and enjoy everything you have created during your class.
Everything you prepare will either be eaten during the class or taken home. We are actively trying to cut back on single-use containers, so please bring your own for any leftovers.
