Banh Chung Collective 2025: Alma Backyard Farms - San Pedro

Your ticket includes:

• Admission to the event on Saturday, February 8, 2025.
• Bánh chưng ingredients: Sweet rice, marinated pork belly (or extra vegan mung beans), mung bean-shallot paste, and banana leaves.
• Bánh chưng supplies: paper bánh chưng molds, twine, and instructions for how to make bánh chưng .
• A light Lunar New Year lunch

Each attendee will receive ingredients and supplies to assemble 4 bánh chưng.

Please note that you'll be bringing your assembled bánh chưng home to cook afterwards. You will receive take-home instructions on how to cook your bánh chưng.

Don't worry if you've never assembled bánh chưng before. We'll have experienced bánh chưng teachers to help guide you through the steps.

In a time of upheaval and loss, when so many in Los Angeles are impacted by the recent fires, this year's convening provides a space for folks to be in community with one another.

40% of ticket sales are directed to Alma Backyard Farms and its transformative work in urban agriculture, Anti-Recidivism Coalition for its work in helping formerly incarcerated firefighters get certification, and National Day Laborer Organizing Network for its work with immigrants hit hardest by the fires.

The Bánh Chưng Collective was born out of a desire to affirm and strengthen community bonds between women, LGBTQIA, and people of color. For the past few years, the Collective has convened friends and chosen family to celebrate Lunar New Year and make bánh chưng.

Will supplies and ingredients to make the banh chung be provided?

All ingredients and supplies to assemble 4 bánh chưng will be provided for you when you arrive at the location. Please note that you'll be bringing your assembled bánh chưng home to cook afterwards. You will receive take-home instructions on how to cook your bánh chưng.

Do you have a vegan option for the bánh chưng?

Yes. If you choose the vegan option, instead of pork belly, you'll be provided with extra vegan mung bean filling to add to your bánh chưng.

Do you have a vegan option for lunch?

Yes. We will offer vegan options for lunch.

How do I cook the bánh chưng once I get them home?

We will provide take-home instructions for cooking your bánh chưng. You won't need any specialized equipment, just a stockpot or a pressure cooker like an Instant Pot.

I ordered a ticket but I changed my mind. Can I get a refund?

Preparing and assembling the kits is a multi-day process that requires significant planning and preparation. For that reason, we are only able to provide refunds up to February 1, 2025. After February 1, 2025, all sales are final and tickets will no longer be refunded.

Is there parking?

Free street parking is available at the location.
