The iconic Japanese composer Ryuichi Sakamoto became world famous with his film music, from Bertolucci’s The Last Emperor (awarded an Oscar for the best soundtrack) to The Revenant with its dramatic strings. On the album 1996, Sakamoto has arranged a selection of personal favourites for piano trio, and this is the music that has now been adapted for the legendary Bang on A Can All-Stars. For more than thirty years, the New York-based ensemble has been storming the ramparts of classical music with extremely dynamic performances and innovative compositions. In this tribute to Sakamoto, you will hear the enthralling soundtracks to The Last Emperor, Wuthering Heights, The Sheltering Sky, Merry Christmas Mr. Lawrence and more.
The concert is preceded by a conversation with Klaas Coulembier that takes place at 19:15 pm in the Studio. This encounter will be in French and in Dutch. Free admission.
