This Friday 19th of December, a greek rebetiko revelry with Banda Yala Duo is expected for the second time at Mickey Finns:
Odysseas Manidakis (bouzouki, vocals)
Aron Hollinger (guitar, vocals)
Banda Yala was formed in 2016 as a duo, when Aron Hollinger (GER, guitar, vocals) and Odysseas Manidakis (GR, bouzouki, vocals) met during their studies at the Anton Bruckner Private University in Linz - Aron in Jazz Guitar and Odysseas in Composition. The spark came from playing Greek folk music and Rebetiko together, at first simply for the joy of making music. Soon after, they began performing in various restaurants and live venues around Linz and the surrounding area.
Over the years, they developed a musical partnership that became the core of their work, while leaving room for other musical idioms to enter their creative process.
Our music combines Greek folk music and Rebetiko with a touch of jazz and modern influences, sometimes traditional, sometimes experimental, but always with respect and passion towards the historical recordings of the period. We invite our audience to join us on a journey through the colorful mosaic of Rebetiko and to let themselves drift and swing in its modal soundscapes
