Craig Hultgren performs fresh repertoire for the cello, representing directions in contemporary music from traditional to experimental, acoustic to electronic, and structured to improvisational. This concert commemorates the 30th Anniversary of the Birmingham Art Music Alliance, in consideration of Hultgren's significant role as a founder of the organization, champion of Alabama composers, and persistent activist for new music. The multi-generational and stylistically diverse program features music by Emily Zhang, Isaac Griffin-Layne, Kyle McGucken, Gavin Green, William Price, LaDonna Smith, Davey Williams, Michael Angell, Michael Coleman, Holland Hopson, and Mark Lackey.
Following the concert is a brief discussion with founders of the Birmingham Art Music Alliance, moderated by arts writer Michael Huebner.
This activity is made possible by support from Alabama State Council on the Arts.
The night before, Saturday 11/8 at 7pm, Craig Hultgren performs an all-electric improvisatory concert at East Village Arts of Birmingham (7611 1st Ave. North).
