Get ready to clear out pesky Himalayan Balsam and enjoy a few hours in nature with great company!
About this Event

We are so back!

It’s Himalayan Balsam removal season so let’s get together to evict this unwanted guest from our parks and greenspaces! 🌱👊

Join us for a few hours to help protect our bluebells! It’s easy, oddly satisfying, and a great excuse to get some light outdoor exercise. Plus, it’s a brilliant way to meet like‑minded people. Stay for an hour or hang around for the whole session — totally up to you.

Everyone is welcome, of all ages — including well‑behaved dogs and children 🐕

Feeling a bit nervous about turning up on your own? We’ve all been there! If you’d like to meet someone beforehand so you recognise a friendly face, just email [email protected] or message Faye via the event page. We’re more than happy to meet up before the event — either on the morning itself or during the week leading up. We really want everyone to feel comfortable and welcome.

What to expect

We’ll be pulling up Himalayan balsam in the great outdoors. Don’t worry if you’ve never done it before — full instructions will be given, and it’s very easy to pick up.

The practical bits

Parking: There is on-street parking available on Hillside Road
Meet: At Hillside Road entrance at the bottom of Tag Woods.
Postcode: BL0 9NJ
What3Words: ///capers.embodied.rekindle

What to wear

Old clothes are a must! Long sleeves, trousers, and gardening or work gloves are recommended. Balsam likes to hang out with nettles and brambles, so covering arms and legs is a good idea. Sturdy shoes or boots please.

What to bring

No tools needed — we’ve got that covered. You might want to bring a drink and a snack to keep you going.

The serious (but necessary) bit

Everyone takes part at their own risk. The group and its members can’t accept liability for any accidents or injuries. A first aid kit will be available for minor injuries.

A full risk assessment is available via our Facebook group Balsam Bashing Ramsbottom, or by emailing [email protected] to request a copy.
