BALR 2022 conference celebrates both BALR’s 40th and LSTM’s 125th anniversaries.

Key themes to be covered are global lung research, future career success, infection, allergy and ageing in lung diseases, respiratory challenge models and vaccines.

In addition to our usual competitions for PGR and Early Career researchers we also have a mid-career researcher competition.

The BALR has provided a focus for exchange of ideas between all manner of respiratory researchers, basic scientist, and clinician alike, to ferment collaboration and to further fundamental pulmonary research for over twenty years, thus fulfilling the initial aims of the society to promote respiratory research throughout the UK. We are also a registered charity (SC010151).

The BALR 2022 Conference Leads as follows: Dr. Andrea Collins, Senior Clinical Academic in Respiratory Medicine at LSTM and Conference Organiser. Prof. Daniela Ferreira Head of Clinical Sciences Department, and Professor of respiratory vaccines and infection immunology at LSTM. Dr. Karl Staples, Associate Professor at the University of Southampton Faculty of Medicine and Chair for the British Association for Lung Research. Dr. Owen Tomlinson Owen, Lecturer in Medicine at Exeter University and the Meetings Secretary for the British Association for Lung Research.

Alongside cross-disciplinary talks from high-profile speakers, a key theme of our meeting is to support Early and Mid - Career Researchers (PGR students and Postdocs) by providing a platform to present their research in our PGR/ ECR/MCR competitions. The conference is also aimed at

The Novotel Paddington Village (adjacent to the conference venue The Spine) is currently under construction, due for completion in Spring 2022. Delegates will be updated once this hotel has been added as an accommodation option. In the meantime, you may wish to secure a hotel booking to suit your requirements and budget confident this can be amended at a later date.

No payment is required at the time of booking. Secure your rooms by credit/debit card guarantee and pay the accommodation provider directly on arrival, alternatively you may arrange pre-payment by requesting a pro-forma invoice where payment must be made 14 days prior to arrival.

Social Event & Networking

On the 20th of Sep 2022 the Liverpool Respiratory Research Team will be hosting a FREE SOCIAL EVENT open to all delegates attending in person. This will include a Tour of Liverpool , a light dinner at Imagine More Café Strawberry Fields, and includes access to the exhibition.

This event will start at the close of Day 1 from 4.00pm until 6.30pm/7.00pm. Collection and drop off at conference venue, The Spine Liverpool.
